Spotlight on: The New Mezzanine

Spotlight on: The New Mezzanine

It has been in the pipeline for a little while now and I'm sure most of you have heard us talking about it, but if you didn't know, we are installing a new mezzanine to enable us to cope with the huge amount of growth we have seen in DASL.

Our Senior Engineer & resident jack of all trades Jon has taken on the task of project manager along with the help of Redsoul Design's Rich they spent the month of March planning and preparing the project, April however was a different story with the first few beams put in place.

Now into May the phase of clearing the current mezzanine and containers has been in full flow. We have also rented a small unit on the estate for the next 6 months (which also gives us a deadline to work to!) to enable us to store everything that’s currently in our way to speed up removal and the new installation. We are treating this as a full 5s programme with ‘sort’ now fully underway.

In all honesty this project is a massive challenge as we have decided to work around the business and our somewhat rather large machinery, fitting the mezz as we go. We considered a production shutdown, but we are so busy it isn't really an option.
