When five become four so two become three.

When five become four so two become three.

We are really pleased to be able to say that our journey over the years, fabricating sheet metal, assembling electronics & developing wireless staff protection products has been one of continuous improvement. Every day, month & year of our existence we have strived to be better at what we do. More customer focused, more efficient, lowering costs, reducing wastes – you can always be better so the challenge never really ends.

A cliché but also a truism, you are only as good as your people, the team, the most important asset of our company and the driving force behind everything we have achieved. We like to think we are people focused and our business vision has always tried to strike a balance between financial achievement and employee welfare.

Newswise there has certainly been a lot of commentary on working people recently. Working from home or not working from home, critical labour & skill shortages, wage demands to keep pace with inflation, strikes and unrest – every day seems to bring scores of unhappy workforces or unhappy employers.

At the start of the year, as always, we were considering what our key improvement areas for 2023 should be. One thing stood out, what could we do that would directly and significantly benefit our people? How could we make a step change to overall welfare & improve work life balance, whilst supplementing and potentially re-energising the focus on continuous improvement?

We set ourselves a challenge. In January the team were a little surprised with the nature of the question “Would you like to work less days and increase your weekend?” but have enthusiastically reviewed our productivity measures, identified where increased efficiencies could be gained, changed processes, examined costs, reviewed working hours, and kept all of this underpinned by a commitment to not adversely affect either customers or suppliers.

And now we are here. Ready to go. Ready to break from the traditional working week model adopted by the UK in the 1930’s. From July 31st our working day will be 7am until 4.45pm Monday through Thursday and our time away will be Friday to Sunday. We are confident this new arrangement delivers a sustainable business with energised employees putting our customers first.

Three, it’s the magic number.
